March 30. eTugers during the Spotlight on Educational Technology

eTUGers will be present at the Spotlight On Educational Technology.

This is a good opportunity to  find out about the challenges pre-K through 12 teachers face as they integrate technology and new science- and/or math-based programs into the classroom while still meeting their school's need to increase student achievement. The presentation includes award-winning projects, spotlight gallery (table displays), 20-minute spotlight presentations and UNI faculty teaching innovations. This event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, in the ITTC. Sponsored by ITS-Educational Technology.

Attention!

Just got an email from Rick Vanderwall at PLS. He said that their computers weren’t online yet and would like to postpone our work there until next week.

DON’T GO TO PLS TODAY. (Monday, Feb 12)

Hello eTUG members! (Feb 5)

Hope everyone had a good weekend and their week is off to a great and fun start because of the eTUG meeting! Thank you for those of you who came! We are still missing some people! I hope you will make it to our next meeting which is February 19th at 4:30 to 5:30.

Tonight we learned about Podcasting and how to create a podcast and post it. Dr. Z put on a great presentation and had a hand out with steps on creating the podcast. If you missed the meeting and are interested in having one of the handouts on file, Dr. Z will give you a copy. Also, if you check out www.leighzeitz.com, click on ITEC Conference 2006 located on the left hand side, then click Podcatching and Podcasting on the same left hand side and there is lot of information you can browse about podcast that he has posted.
You can also download the step-by-step instructions of how to create your podcast with GarageBand (free Macintosh application).

Thanks Dr. Z for the presentation! It will be very helpful for when we are working with the PLS students!

Which reminds me,
we will be going to PLS next Monday (Feb 12th) at 3:15ish to 4:15ish in room 209 to work with the students and setting up their radio! Mark your calendar for this great opportunity!

Hope to see more people at our next meeting!
Thanks! Have a super week!

Hello eTUG members! (Jan 22)

We are looking forward to having a fun filled semester with eTUG! Price Laboratory School is setting up a "radio" network for the students to run and we get to help with it! What a great opportunity to work with students and technology! We will be meeting at Price Lab on Mondays at 3:15 to 4:15 in room 209. I should be there all the time so come and join me and the students! Our future meetings will be held on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month at 4:30 to 5:30. We are hoping to bring in guest speakers on the 3rd Monday of the month so we can learn about a wide range of technology. Some of the future topics we are going to be having in our meetings are; setting up an eTug blog so UNI students can post questions or comments to us and we can respond, podcasting, technology tools used in classrooms, iPods, or anything else that would like to be learned about! Also, feel free to bring in cool gadgets or things you saw on T.V. or the net to share with at the meetings!

Tonight's discussion was led by Robin Galloway on Handhelds or PDAs. If you missed this meeting and would like more information about handhelds, talk to Prof. Galloway or you can visit these sites he included in his presentation. The first link was created by Prof. Galloway and has great information.

January 22, 2007

Happy New Year!

The first meeting of Spring semester 2007 will take place Monday, January 22 @ 5 p.m. in SEC 405

Memo:

Radio Show:
Thursday, September 21st there will be a meeting with Mr. Vanderwall about buying the computer. All of those able to attend we will meet at 4:22 outside of Price Lab by the bike racks to go to room 209 together
.

The first meeting of the Fall 2006 semester featured guest speaker Rick Vanderwall, a teacher at Price Laboratory School. His presentation pointed out how teachers are constantly competing for the students' attention, and technology is a good way to gain some of that attention. When using technology in the classroom, the teacher must understand his or her students, continually relearn new technologies, and do the unexpected.

Mr. Vanderwall continued his presentation by discussing some of the technologies he uses in his classroom. These included a teacher website, PowerPoint presentations, WebQuests, Student Radio, Blogs, and Helix Producer. These, among other technologies, allows the students to become authentic learners.

After Mr. Vanderwall's presentation, we discussed our interests with some of the technologies used in his classroom. Helping with Student Radio seemed to be where the most interest was placed. After the meeting, President Brandon Bauer e-mailed Mr. Vanderwall to set up a time when we could come to his classroom and work with the Student Radio. Currently we have set up a meeting time of 4:30 this Thursday (August 31st, 2006) to introduce ourselves to his classroom.

We also discussed when to have our UNI eTUG meetings. It was decided that meetings would be bi-monthly, held on the first Tuesday and third Monday of every month at 5:00 PM. This means that our meetings in September will fall on the 5th and the 18th. We will use this time to discuss what we have learned, new ideas, and possible advancements for UNI eTUG.

Due to being idle, our eTUG e-mail address was temporarily suspended. I am happy to say that it is running again: unietug@hotmail.com. If you have any questions, your e-mails can be directed to that address.

Thank you for your interests, and I hope to see you all on September 5th and 18th.

Sincerely,
Brandon Bauer
UNI eTUG President
